The City of Coldwater is organized under the Council / Manager form of government. The Mayor and Council are the legislative body and the city’s decision makers. Power is centralized in the elected Mayor and Council which approves the budget, tax and utility rates. The Mayor and Council also focus on the community’s goals, major projects and such long term considerations as community growth, land use development, capital improvement plans, capital financing and strategic planning.
Responsibilities of the Mayor
The Mayor presides over and is a voting member of the City Council. They are the ceremonial head and chief officer of the City. The Mayor provides information concerning matters pertaining to the legislative and policy functions of the Council and gives their recommendations. The Mayor executes and authenticates documents required by law of the City Charter. They appoint members of boards and committees subject to the concurrence of the City Council.
