Department for Community Engagement

Previously called the Marketing Department, the Department for Community Engagement is a shared department between the City of Coldwater and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU). The Department for Community Engagement works closely with the City / CBPU to build relationships and engage with citizens, customers, and businesses within the City of Coldwater.

The department is responsible for the following:

  • Working with the City Manager and the Utility Director to release all formal communication from the organizations
    • Including social media, press releases, push notifications, notes on bills, letters, surveys, award submissions, and information on this website. 
  • Overseeing Sponsorships and Donations
    • Sponsorship and Donation requests are reviewed by the Sponsorship Committee every month. Funds are provided by the CBPU. The committee provides a recommendation to the Utility Director, and a final decision is made. Organizations are notified by their preferred method of communication.  
  • Creating Multimedia Content 
    • Including graphics, photos, and videos for social media posts, the City Calendar, bill stuffers, flyers, brochures, advertisements, slide show presentations, and more. 
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives
    • Organize, measure, and track community impact through employee volunteer hours and monetary donations.
    • Arrange volunteer opportunities for City & CBPU employees. 
  • Event Assistance 
    • Collaborate with the Recreation Department to market Strawberry Fest / Apple Fest / Winter Fest 
    • Plan and execute City and CBPU events; create partnerships within the community.
    • Provide recommendations to create new events and improve existing City/CBPU events. 
  • Other tasks as assigned

Our Community Impact

2024

  • 01.27.2024 - The CBPU sponsored and attended the 2024 Winterfest, CBPU employees volunteered to man the booth; City of Coldwater had a table at the event and was educating citizens on brush changes in 2024. 
  • 01.31.2024 - The City & CBPU hosted their first blood drive of 2024. They collected 47 units of blood. 
  • 02.01.2024 - The Department for Community Engagement attended the Branch County Community Foundation's Project Connect Event
  • 02.03.2024 - The Department for Community Engagement worked with Coldwater Main Street to host the 2nd Love Local event in Downtown Coldwater. 
  • 02.08.2024 - The City & CBPU kicked off their 2024 Citizens Academy! 
  • 02.14.2024 - The CBPU participated in Trine University's Engineering Career Fair
  • 02.15.2024 - The City of Coldwater's Recreation Department attended Trine University's General Career Fair

2023

  • 01.27.2023 - City & CBPU participated in the BISD's Career Readiness Day
  • 01.28.2023 - CBPU sponsored the Coldwater Recreation Department's 2023 Winter Fest; CBPU employees volunteered to man the booth
  • 01.28.2023 - CBPU sponsored the Coldwater Athletic Booster's 80's Party
  • 02.04.2023 - The Department for Community Engagement worked with the City of Coldwater's DDA to host Love Local, Downtown Deals & Soup and Chili Cook-Off
  • 02.27.2023 - CBPU sent mutual aid to Hillsdale, Michigan for Storm (Ice Storm) Restoration Efforts
  • 03.05.2023 - CBPU Donated a Purse to the Branch County United Way's Power of the Purse Event
  • 03.10.2023 - CBPU is recognized by the Coldwater Area Chamber of Commerce as the 2022 Business of the Year
  • 03.13.2023 - CBPU visited Jefferson Elementary School for our first "March is Reading Month" school visit
  • 03.15.2023 - CBPU visited Max Larsen Elementary School for another "March is Reading Month" school visit 
  • 03.15.2023 - The City/CBPU participated in a Career Fair at Trine University 
  • 03.22.2023 - 6 Employees from the City/CBPU participated in the Branch County United Way's United We Read Event
  • 03.23.2023 - CBPU visited Pansophia Academy for our last "March is Reading Month" school visit
  • 04.01.2023 - CBPU sent mutual aid to Wapakoneta, Ohio for Storm (Tornado) Restoration Efforts
  • 04.05.2023 - CBPU sponsored the Branch County Deputy Sheriff Association's basketball game against Detroit Lions Legends
  • 04.14.2023 - CBPU arranged for Engineering students from Trine University to tour generator sites and learn about careers in Public Power. 
  • 04.21.2023 - CBPU employees volunteered to help clean up the old side of Oak Grove Cemetery
  • 04.22.2023 - CBPU sponsored Coldwater High School's Afterglow (After-Prom) event
  • 04.27.2023 - The City partnered with a 3rd Grade class at Pansophia Academy to clean-up Parkhurst Park
  • 04.27.2023 - The City's Public Safety Department attended the BACC's Career Fair 
  • 04.29.2023 - CBPU sponsored the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence's Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event
  • 05.09.2023 - CBPU's Electric Department & the City's Public Safety Department attended the BACC's Kids Consider College & Careers Event
  • 05.18.2023 - CBPU sponsored the Coach Eby Youth & Family Center's Flannel & Denim All American Banquet
  • 05.18.2023 - The City helped BIGGBY arrange a service day for 2 volunteers at Oak Grove Cemetery; helped plant endowed flowers
  • 05.25.2023 - City & CBPU placed flags on veterans' graves at Oak Grove Cemetery
  • 05.26.2023 - CBPU sponsored Altrusa International of Branch County's Golf Scramble event
  • 05.30 & 05.31.2023 - CBPU sponsored Pansophia Academy's 3rd Grade Learning Beyond the Classroom field trip. 
  • 06.17.2023 - CBPU provided an in-kind sponsorship to Beginnings Care for Life's Life Walk & Run; $150 gift basket 
  • 06.17.2023 - The CBPU attended the Coldwater Recreation Department's annual Strawberry Fest & Craft Show. CBPU's booth featured a coloring wall. 
  • 06.17, 06.18, & 06.20.2023 - CBPU sponsored the Coldwater High School Girls' Basketball, Basketball camp for 3rd - 8th Graders
  • 06.26.2023 - The City & CBPU hosted their first blood drive with the American Red Cross; collected 37 pints - 12 pints over the original goal
  • 06.29.2023 - Hops on Monroe, a CBPU-sponsored event (Pilsner Sponsorship), starts. 
  • 07.04.2023 - CBPU sponsors the City of Coldwater's annual Fourth of July Firework Show. 
  • 07.31.2023 - The CBPU sponsors the Branch District Library's Summer Reading Program Foam Party.
  • 08.01.2023 - CBPU sponsored an Entertainment Under the Stars concert; Pomegranate Whiskey Band
  • 08.06.2023 through 08.12.2023 - The CBPU had a vendor booth, sponsored a golf cart, and sponsored a fence banner at the Branch County Fair.
  • 08.26.2023 - The CBPU sponsored City/CBPU employees for the ABC Challenge; gave in-kind support; and gave $500 to be an area sponsor
  • 08.27.2023 - The CBPU gave in-kind support to the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence's Golf Ball Drop at the Shelter House. 
  • 08.25.2023 - 08.30.2023 - The CBPU sent mutual aid to Lansing, Michigan for Storm (Tornado) Restoration Efforts

  • 09.08.2023 - 10.01.2023 - The CBPU hosted a Public Utilities Week Coloring Contest for 1st - 4th Grade Students
  • 09.08.2023 - The CBPU gave 3 Hazard Hamlet safety presentations to 4th & 5th Grade students at Lakeland Elementary
  • 09.16.2023 - The CBPU attended the Coldwater Recreation Department's annual Apple Fest & Craft Show. CBPU's booth featured a coloring wall. 
  • 09.30.2023 - The CBPU sponsored Hoptoberfest.
  • 10.01.2023 - 10.31.2023 - The CBPU sponsored a Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising challenge between MSCPA communities: the City of Coldwater, the City of Marshall, the City of Hillsdale, and the Village of Clinton. The City of Coldwater raised $3,054. 41, and overall, MSCPA communities raised $4,121.41. The City of Coldwater had 16+ people donate to receive and display a Pink Ribbon. 
  • 10.19.2023 - The CBPU attended the BACC's Career Fair at the Dearth Community Center. 
  • 10.23.2023 - The City & CBPU hosted their second blood drive with the American Red Cross. They collected 41 pints - 4 more pints than their goal!
  • 10.25.2023 - The CBPU sponsored the Branch County United Way's RadioThon for 1 Hour.
  • 11.11.2023 - The CBPU sponsored the Coldwater High School NHS' Turkey Trot. 
  • 11.16.2023 - The City & CBPU collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Branch Area Food Pantry; they collected 112 non-perishables (equal to 88 pounds [Data provided by the Branch Area Food Pantry]) and raised $1,700 for the food pantry. 
  • 11.31.2023 - Susan G. Komen - Michigan came and presented the Pink Ribbon Award to the winner of the CBPU's Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraising Challenge.
