Is Your Internet Connection Safe?
This is an important question to ask yourself if you don’t want anyone else to have the ability to share your Internet connection or have access to your online account information.
Wireless Networking (Wi-Fi) has made it so easy to use computers, tablets, mobile phones, video game consoles, and other wireless devices anywhere in the house without the clutter of cables.
Importance of a Secure Network
Why it’s important to secure your network:
- Don’t let people use your bandwidth! If your Internet has been sluggish, this may be the problem.
- Protect your banking and personal information.
- There are bad people out there. Please do not allow them to jump on your account, where their activity can be traced to you.
If you’re gone throughout the day at work or will be leaving on vacation for a week, shut your router off. You remove all possibility of someone being able to access your network when it’s not on. Plus you can save on electricity.
It’s important to create unique passwords and change them often. Passwords should preferably be 8-10+ characters long, with upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters (if supported). The longer and more unique the password, the more difficult it will be to hack.
You can find Wireless Security setup instructions on your wireless router manufacturers’ support page.
