Coldwater, Mich. (26 Oct. 2023) – The City of Coldwater is launching an essential public awareness campaign: "No Wipes in the Pipes." There is a difference between disposable wipes and flushable wipes, and we want to ensure our community understands the importance of proper disposal. Certain items do not break down easily, causing blockages that can take years to disintegrate and damage our sewer systems. The only thing that should be flushed is toilet paper.

We kindly urge residents to refrain from flushing the following items to keep our sewer systems running smoothly:

  • Cleaning or baby wipes
  • Paper or plastic bags
  • Cloth towels or rags
  • Hygiene products
  • Bandages
  • Grease
  • Cigarette butts
  • Prescription drugs
  • Dental floss
  • Paper towels

Disposing of items in a toilet might seem convenient, but it can lead to severe issues within our sewer systems. Proper disposal of these items in the trash, rather than flushing them, will help protect our sewers and lower the risk of blockages.

For more information on this campaign, please contact the Water Resource Recovery Facility at (517) 279-9531.
