You have the power to save energy and money in your own home!

Saving energy reduces the demand for resources needed to make energy and improves your energy efficiency. That results in lower utility bills and money in your pocket. Energy efficiency efforts can also improve your home's comfort and quality of life.

Small changes can have a big impact on your home's efficiency as well as your utility bill. Here are a few energy-saving tips to follow:

  • Refrain from using nonessential lighting, heavy equipment, large motors, and appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ovens;
  • Raise air conditioner thermostats to the highest comfortable level and use fans to supplement air conditioning;
  • Keep cycling pool pumps off during the day;
  • Use a microwave oven or outside grill for cooking;
  • Close shades, blinds, or drapes to keep out the hot rays of the sun;
  • Make sure that furniture does not obstruct the air conditioning vents; and,
  • Position heat-producing appliances, such as televisions or lamps away from the thermostat.

Similarly, how you use your home appliances can also add up. Below is a list of common household appliances and the cost to run them per hour
