[ARCHIVED] CBPU Seeks Grant to Replace Lead Water Lines

BPU Water Building

The CBPU is seeking a grant to replace its lead water lines after it did not qualify for a $7 million loan from the state to cover five infrastructure projects. CBPU later determined that they were eligible for a $3 million grant to replace lead service lines with copper ones. This grant falls under “Booker” funds. When asked about what the funds would mean for Coldwater’s development, CBPU Director, Jeff Budd, noted that the grant would support state mandates that were implemented following the Flint Water Crisis and the adoption of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. In addition to this, CBPU’s Water & WRRF Superintendent, Brian Musselman, stated that  “[the CBPU has] been testing for lead in the water for over 30 years and never had a test exceed safe limits.”The CBPU has 20 years to complete the work and is seeking a $3 million grant to cover the expenses of three water infrastructure projects.
