Julie Santure, Recreation Director for the City of Coldwater officially opened the new Pickleball Courts at Parkhurst Park on Friday, August 25th. The four newly constructed courts are open to the public and the ribbon cutting was attended by many of the players who enjoy this new sport. Niles Kenyon, who is known as the “godfather of Coldwater Pickleball” expressed his appreciation to the City and the many donors who made this new facility possible. Kenyon said “we started with a small number of players and have seen this sport grow tremendously over the past summer. These new courts will provide for even greater play and I believe this sport will continue to increase in popularity”.
The four new courts were designed specifically for Pickleball and join the two courts previously available at the Coldwater Tennis Facility at Heritage Park. The game is a combination of tennis, badminton, and ping pong and can be played and enjoyed by all ages. There is organized play every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 9 am and on Tuesday and Thursday at 5 pm. Players of all skill levels are welcome to come at those times and participate or use the courts at their convenience.
