The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities received an Excellence in Public Power Communications Merit Award from the American Public Power Association. APPA presented the award to the CBPU during their virtual Customer Connections Conference on October 28.
The CBPU was one of just five public power utility organizations to earn an Excellence in Public Power Communications Award in their category. The CBPU competed in the "Web and Social Media" category of their classification, submitting a write-up on their "#ThrowbackThursday" campaign, which they implemented through the first half of 2020. The campaign highlights were posts of several historic photos of linemen, servicemen, CBPU trucks, and equipment used over the last few decades. The photographs illustrated the impact and stability that public power has had on Coldwater's community.
"The historic photos perfectly captured the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities' Public Power story throughout the decades," said Dylan Strehle, Marketing Coordinator of the CBPU. "I thought, 'Hey, I think our customers would like to see these!' That was the basis for the project."
This annual award recognizes excellence in communications in the field of public power. APPA awards those that show ingenuity and creativity in telling their stories through outstanding copy, design, financial data presentation, graphics, social media engagement, video editing, and web layout and interactivity.
"It's an honor to receive this award," said Jodi Shook, Customer Service and Communications Director of the CBPU. "Our main goal is to be highly visible and to communicate well with our customers here in Coldwater. When we get the attention and recognition from a national organization like the APPA, we see that our work reaches a much bigger footprint."
