[ARCHIVED] City Council Election Notice

Residents of the City of Coldwater interested in running for City Council Ward 2 partial term ending November 13, 2023, may request an affidavit of identity forms from the City Clerk’s Office, One Grand Street, Coldwater, Michigan, with the filing deadline 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2020. Please call ahead for an appointment.

Because the Governor declared a state of emergency due to the Covid-19 pandemic on March 10, 2020; and the Michigan Legislature extended the state of emergency to April 30, 2020; the City’s signature requirement shall be temporarily suspended for candidates filing for election to any vacant City Council seat in the November 2020 general election and as an alternative to providing a nominating petition with not fewer than 25 signatures from qualified electors from the relevant Ward, such candidate may instead contact the Clerk with his or her intention to stand for a particular office and shall file with the Clerk all other normally required documents, including the Affidavit of Identity and the Affidavit of Qualifications.

Eligibility for Elective Office is as follows: twenty-one years of age, a registered elector of the City and if running for a Council position, must reside in that ward, a resident of the City for at least two years continuously immediately preceding the election, and cannot be in default to the City.

If there are more than two candidates running for the position of Councilmember Ward 2, an August Primary will be scheduled. The Primary Election date is August 4, 2020 and the General Election date is November 3, 2020.
