Overview
The Coldwater Downtown Historic District is the commercial and cultural heart of the City of Coldwater. During the period of rapid expansion and change which prevailed throughout the middle and latter portion of the 20th Century, several of the city's older commercial buildings were demolished to make way for municipal parking lots as newer commercial structures were built on the periphery to take advantage of easier vehicular access. While these changes lead to an increase in retail and service choices, we found ourselves on the verge of losing the uniqueness of our city.
Organized in 2010, the Historic District Commission is responsible for reviewing work within the Downtown Historic District to ensure that all alterations, demolitions, and additions to the city's core not only preserve, but strengthen the uniquely Coldwater character of the City.
