2023 Housing Residential Grant Program
In partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development, the City of Coldwater will begin accepting applications for the Housing Preservation Grant Program on July 31, 2023. The USDA’s Housing Preservation Grant Program can provide up to $7,499 towards eligible interior and exterior home rehabilitation projects. Applicants must be low and very-low-income residents of owner-occupied single-family homes. A minimum of a 50% match is required by the homeowner. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are awarded.
Eligible improvements include roof repair or replacement, repair or replacement of the heating system, repair of, or provision for, structural supports and foundations, replacement or severely deteriorated siding, porches or stoops, replacement doors and windows, electrical wiring, alterations or the unit’s interior or exterior to provide greater accessibility, and energy conservation measures.
The City was awarded $115,000 from the USDA to administer the Housing Preservation Program, which can fund a minimum of 15 projects. Projects that qualify and meet the income eligibility requirements as listed on the application will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis until funds have been earmarked. In the event that a selected project does not move forward, a waitlist will be maintained.
“The City of Coldwater is pleased to partner with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development to administer a housing preservation grant program for income-qualified low and very low-income homeowners in the City of Coldwater. The program will provide resources for household maintenance and stability, improve neighborhood image, and encourage private reinvestment,” said Keith Baker, City Manager.
Applications can be downloaded from www.Coldwater.org or picked up in person from the Neighborhood Services Department at the Henry L. Brown Municipal Building located at 1 Grand St. Applications will be available in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
