Establishing New Service

To establish a new residential or business account the following documentation must be provided to the CBPU Customer Service Department. The CBPU Customer Service Department is located at City Hall - 1 Grand Street, Coldwater, MI 49036.

Any questions relating to setting service can be answered by calling the Customer Service Department at 517-279-9531.

  • Deposits may be required on new accounts; Business accounts will require a deposit to be determined by the CBPU on an individual case basis.
  • Name(s)
  • Mailing address
  • Phone number(s)
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number or Corporate ID Number
  • A copy of mortgage or lease agreement

  • Identification (needs to be one of the following)
    • Driver's License
    • Military ID or Passport
    • United States Government or State Government issued Photo ID
    • Passports issued by a foreign government ARE acceptable.
    • Driver's License or other photo ID's issued by a foreign government are NOT acceptable.

Social Security Numbers


Social Security Numbers are the preferred form of identification, but are not required. If the social security number cannot be validated, the CBPU may ask for deposit to secure the account.
